Je manjši, povešavi, počasi rastoči zimzeleni iglavec. V višino zraste 1-2 m, v širino se razbohoti 3-4- m. Ima široko, neenakomerno, kupolasto krošnjo. Veje so široko razprte in povešave, s sivo-zelenimi do modro-zelenimi iglicami. Drevo ima črno-sivo lubje. Cveti med septembrom in oktobrom, moški cvetovi so bolj izraziti, rumeno-rjave barve. Najbolje uspeva na globokih suhih do zmerno vlažnih tleh, na zavetnih, toplih, sončnih do polsenčnih legah, zaščitena pred suhim, mrzlim vetrom.
