Koloradska jelka je večje, hitrorastoče drevo, ki dobro prenaša sušo in onesnažen zrak. V višino doseže 12 do 15 m. Iglice so daljše, modro-srebrno zelene in prijetnega vonja. Krona drevesa je široko stožčasta, obraščena od tal. Storži so sprva rumeno zeleni, v zrelosti rjavo vijolični, ter sedeči na vejah obrnjeni navzgor. Najboljše uspeva v humoznih, rahlo kislih tleh, ki morajo biti dobro propustna in na sončnih legah.
Zimzeleni iglavec s s srebrno modrimi iglicami. Rast je izrazito koničasta, precej simetrična. Zraste približno 6 m visoko in 2 do 3m široko. Primerna je za sončne lege in suha tla.
